Do you want to know how to use AdBlue correctly to achieve the best possible results in your garage? We are here to help you. In this blog, we will detail a series of tips on how to use AdBlue and the most common mistakes you should avoid.
There are several reports of AdBlue being added to the wrong system, leading to costly breakdowns, damage to the vehicle components, and very unhappy customers.
Let’s look at the most common mistakes made when using AdBlue and how to use it correctly.

Fuel System
Some drivers mistakenly add AdBlue to the fuel tank. This may damage the fuel pump components and injectors. The level of damage and the cleaning procedure will depend on whether the vehicle has been driven with the AdBlue added to the fuel tank.
If the Adblue was added to the fuel tank, but the engine hasn’t been started.
- Drain the fuel tank properly. If necessary, flush the tank with clean fuel to ensure the interior is clean and that the AdBlue has been removed.
- Fill the tank with fresh fuel and add 2 bottles of Wynn’s Total Action Treatment Diesel
- Replace the fuel filter.
- Check the fuel filter after driving 800 km. If there are signs of crystallization, the tank should be cleaned again.
If the Adblue was added to the fuel tank, and the engine has been running.
- Disconnect the fuel system from the tank and run the engine with fresh fuel making sure the return is to a used fuel tank.
- Check the fuel filter after driving 800 km. If there are signs of crystallization, the tank should be cleaned again.
Eolys/PAT fluid reservoir
Eolys fluid or PAT is used in certain vehicles to facilitate the regeneration of the DPF (diesel particulate filter). This fluid has a stand alone reservoir and is added to diesel fuel in small amounts determined by tank fills and fuel consumption.
Eolys and Adblue fluid should not be confused and cannot be used as a direct replacement for each other.
When refueling a vehicle equipped with Eolys and Adblue, ensure that the correct tank is filled with the appropriate fluid for that system.
Adding Eolys to the Adblue system and Adblue to the Eolys system will cause many components to fail.
If an incorrect fluid has been added, the reservoir must be drained and cleaned, and the correct fluid should be added later.
If it’s not possible to access the tank to clean it effectively, the tank must be replaced.
Windshield washer fluid reservoir
If AdBlue has been added to the windshield washer, the reservoir must be removed and cleaned. If they have been used, the windshield washer pump and nozzles must be flushed. AdBlue leaves crystallized deposits in the circuit and can thus block the pump and the nozzles.
Vehicle cooling system
AdBlue added to the cooling system will form crystals and restrict the cooling flow, reducing heat transfer. Under low load conditions, this may not be discovered, but highway driving can cause the engine to overheat.
If crystal formation is excessive, the water pump, thermostat, heater matrix and other components may need replacement.
To clean the system, add 2 bottles of Wynn’s Cooling System Flush and run the engine at a faster idle of 12 to 1500 rpm for 20 minutes. It is also possible to take a short test drive to ensure the vehicle is at the required operating temperature.
Drain the cooling circuit and rinse it with clean water. Once the system is clean, fill it with the correct coolant.
In summary, AdBlue should only be added to the tank intended for this purpose; any addition to another circuit of the vehicle will have serious consequences. To avoid having to deal with such issues, do not hesitate to engage in conversation with your customers!
